Exciting opportunities are arising in the New Hampshire State Senate, with the legislature meeting early next week to decide the future of 3 pro-gun bills.

Along with this is a sole anti-gun gun bill that will be heard in committee. The full details on these bills can be seen below:

The sole anti-gun bill we are tracking is HB 506 — which allows for a background check to be conducted on an individual who is entitled to the return of seized firearms and ammunition upon the termination or expiration of a court order.

This means someone who has had their firearms and ammunition seized after a restraining order or bail order, for example, could potentially undergo a background check just to receive property that has already been ordered by the court to be returned to them.

The bill does not mandate background checks, but it allows courts to request a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check before returning the firearms. This bill should be OPPOSED in the next Senate Judiciary Committee meeting on May 6th!

Moving to a more positive note, HB 2, is also being heard in committee on May 6th.

This bill (New Hampshire’s budget) includes wording about exempting firearms and firearm accessories manufactured for “in-state use only” from the National Firearms Act.

Passing this would be MASSIVE victory for New Hampshire gun owners. In Texas, GOA supported similar legislation in the form of a suppressor freedom bill that was passed in 2021.

Two other bills are also being heard on May 8th.

The first of which is HB 381, which was amended and is now entirely about limiting action against firearms manufacturers.

Under this bill, firearm manufacturers cannot be held liable for claims of defective product design, failure to warn, negligence, or strict product liability based on the presence or absence of magazine disconnect mechanisms, loaded chamber indicators, authorized user recognition technology, or external mechanical safeties.

The exception is that manufacturers can still be held liable if a firearm has a manufacturing defect or does not perform as promised under its express warranty.

The final bill being heard on May 8th is HB 551.

This bill repeals the local licensing requirement for the sale of pistols and revolvers. It is straightforward in reducing burdensome restrictions and regulations.

While we are hopeful that New Hampshire can successfully advance the pro-gun legislation listed above, and we still need you to contact your State Senator by clicking here!

Urge your legislators to SUPPORT these pro-gun bills so we can officially send them off to the Governor.

Because these bills are so close to the finish line, GOA is asking that you pick up the phone and make a call to your Legislators!

When speaking to a Legislator or their staff, you can say something like this:

“Hello, my name is [NAME] and I’m from [TOWN/CITY]. I’m a member of Gun Owners of America and a voter in New Hampshire. During the upcoming session days I encourage you to support pro-gun bills like HB 551, HB 2, and HB 381. I am also asking that you oppose HB 506, Gun Owners of America will keep me informed of how you vote.”

You can click here find out who your State Senator is.

Again, these bills will be heard very early next week. So send a message to your Legislator using the form above and tell them to vote PRO-GUN!
