The Converse County School District #1 Board of Trustees will meet on October 8, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. at 615 Hamilton Street, Douglas, Wyoming to make a final decision regarding the arming of staff to protect the school’s children.

The proposed rule requires employees to submit an application, obtain approval, possess a valid conceal-carry permit, undergo a psychological examination, and receive firearms training.

The ultimate goal is to allow trained and approved staff to protect students and other staff from armed threats at school.

The District will accept in-person public comments on the proposed rules tomorrow, September 25, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at their meeting to be held at 615 Hamilton Street, Douglas.

You can also submit comments in writing via email or mail before October 7, 2024. This rule is allowed under Wyoming law, but it is up to the Board of Trustees to make this decision.

Currently at least four other Wyoming school districts allow armed staff in the schools, and at least 16 states have some form of this program available to help protect our children.

This is the best way for Wyoming citizens to protect their children in public schools.

Please use the Take Action form at the top of this page or here and let the Board of Trustees know that you support a final decision to arm staff in Converse County Schools.
