GOA is excited to share a positive update for the Second Amendment in Tennessee: Constitutional Carry will remain in force for now!
In Hughes v. Lee, the court made the right move to strike down the state’s unconstitutional “Going Armed” and “Parks” statutes that directly restrict your ability to carry in the state. Immediately after this victory however, Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti tried to keep these repressive laws in force by asking the court to issue a stay so the restrictions would remain in effect during his appeal.
The judges said no.
The court was clear that unconstitutional laws cannot stay on the books while the state drags out the process in higher courts. Tennesseans’ right to carry remains protected, for now…
Sadly, Attorney General Skrmetti is still actively pursuing an appeal against the ruling common, which is why we need to keep up the pressure.
Please take a moment to send him a message today urging him to drop the appeal and respect the court’s ruling.
Your rights remain protected today because the court refused to let these unconstitutional laws linger during the appeals process; that’s a major victory, but it’s not the end of the fight. Attorney General Skrmetti is still pressing forward with his appeal, and if he is successful these restrictions could return.
We cannot allow that to happen. By speaking out now, you can help ensure that this win is preserved, that the ruling is respected, and that unconstitutional laws stay off the books in Tennessee.
